Adam McMahon

Training

Adam completed his undergraduate degree and Master of Professional Psychology at Macquarie University. He has been trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT). Adam has also completed further extensive training in DBT via BehaviouralTech, as well as brief interventions for crisis presentations via Project Air.

Clinical Experience

Adam has primarily worked in the public community mental health system since 2019. He has co-facilitated DBT groups at Royal North Shore and Ryde Hospitals. He continues to work at Ryde Community Mental Health where he assists in running a comprehensive DBT program and is currently coordinating the newly commenced Therapies Team. Adam frequently works with individuals with complex problems, including: chronic invalidating relationships and trauma, difficulties with emotion regulation and distress tolerance, interpersonal deficits, and substance dependence.

Interests

Adam has particular interests in trauma, personality disorders, anxiety, substance use disorders, depression, and performance psychology. Adam aims to work with clients to help understand how their development and personal experiences have led to current problems, and focuses on working with clients to achieve behavioural goals. Outside of working with clients, Adam enjoys playing sport (football/soccer), practicing yoga/mobility, and learning more about the relationship between spirituality and understandings of the self.
